1948 Anglia Tourer

Hi John,
I've just been reviewing your Anglia website and thought I should contact you. I am currently restoring a '48 also. I've had mine since April 1995 but have only really started on it in the last 2 years. I've collected bits and pieces over that time but was busy building a house and a 1938 Plymouth so the Anglia had to wait.
There is another '48 tourer here in Melbourne. Just finished is a beautifully restored red one with a tan hood and interior. The owner has done pretty much all of it himself and his eye for detail is exceptional. This tourer is finished like a Rolls Royce, he even replaced all the wood with steel. You can't tell that it is steel except for the way the doors close and stay closed. Also it doesn't suffer from the body flex and vibrations that yours and mine will.
Regarding colours, I haven't found any info on 2 tone tourers. I'm painting mine cream with maroon interior, Was going to be a teal green matching the original colour but have gone off that idea. Have also considered painting cream with teal guards, still not sure.
I have one door to finish the body plus a problem with the boot lid alignment that may turn out to be a body issue yet. I'm waiting on some boot hinges from a club member to confirm the problem and work from there. Once these 2 things are sorted out, its off to the paint shop. Engine and gearbox is back in, diff and suspension is listed for completion this weekend so it is progressing, slowly.

Hi there John,
I've attached some photos of my project as promised. This is a
ground up resto and one must remember it was in a very sad state
when found, complete with large calibre bullet holes in the doors
from somebody using it to set their gun sights!
I have had great difficulty in getting boot hinges (the ones in the photo are incorrect) but have managed to get a loan of a set. I'l be casting a couple of sets as spares and will probably offer one for sale when done. Keep it in mind if your hinges are broken, which I understand is common, hence the difficulty in finding a set.
Keep in touch and up to speed with your resto. It is good to communicate with someone doing the same project,, you can inform each other of the pitfalls, tips and sources of information and parts - even interstate.
